Rainbow Birthday Party in the Garden

We celebrated Ella's 10th Birthday this Summer with a Rainbow theme in the charming gardens of Stoney's Gifts.  We invited 8 of Ella's friends, and they had a giggling good time while hanging out with the delightful Ms. Cindy (the party planner).  Ms. Cindy planned a craft for the girls (sand art) and painted faces as well as set everything up and cleaned up as well.  Stoney, owner of the shop made iced tea, lemonade and fruit kabobs for the girls.  The price was quite reasonable, and I really did not have to do much to prepare at all!  Basically I could have just shown up with Ella and my camera, but I have to go slightly overboard at parties...so I showed up with decorations, goodie bags and rainbow themed treats.  Together, we created the perfect Rainbow Birthday Party in the Gardens at Stoney's Gifts.  If you don't live near Stoney's, I think this party could be done in your very own backyard!

Here are pictures from her big day, along with links about all of the rainbow-themed details, foods, goodies and touches....

Here are the invitations we made for the party.  I designed them and Ella painted the rainbows:

We had delicious Rainbow cookies made by Desserts by Micaela:

Rainbow party snacks: Rainbow cookies, rainbow Goldfish, Fruity Rainbow Popcorn (from Pretzel Fest - Popcorn Pizzazz in the Kenwood Towne Center), Skittles and Fruit Kabobs.  And a Rainbow "Ella" Banner.  And the beautiful painting in the background was made by Stoney especially for Ella!

Instead of goodie bags I bought these adorable rainbow bead bracelets from Buysomelove's Etsy shop.  They were a hit!

Yesterday was my birthday...

Yesterday I turned 36 years old.  The day was sort of crummy...for no major reason...just a blah sort of day...house cleaning, sick baby, burnt pancakes, sweet  & sour sauce spilled all over the kitchen floor...those sorts of annoyances.  I was determined to turn my birthday around though.  My inlaws took the older kids out for the evening and Michael and I had a date night with Henry in tow.  We had a grand evening in the Main Strasse Village!

First we had a delectable dinner at Otto's

Then was my "surprise party" as I called it...but it was actually we just happened to run into my parents, aunts, uncle & cousin having dinner by the Goose Girl Fountain...

This is my Uncle Tom & my cousin Taylor...they are hilarious together...

Next stop, the Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar for a cocktail...

And some quiet time...Henry loved hanging out on this stoop watching all the action...

Then we had Heath Bar Cheesecake at Chez Nora (made by the amazing Micaela)...

Our last stop was the Up Over, to visit my brother...

It really was nice to just have Henry for the evening...he's a completely different little being when he's on his own...

We had so much fun in the Main Strasse Village on Friday night that we went back again on Saturday for dinner at Cock & Bull, it was a perfect night to sit outside and eat dinner...

But the best part of my birthday was this....

may third ~ my favorite day of the year!

today was my birthday.  if you've been following this blog for more than a year or if you know me well you will know that i like to celebrate my birthday all week long.  i'm a bit of a princess when it comes to my birthday.  and there is no shame in that.  i'm not in it for the gifts (well, more on this later, the gifts are awesome), i'm mostly in it for the celebration and fun!  this week i've enjoyed a girls night out and a date night with good friends.  and then today i started the day with farm fresh scrambled eggs & homemade multi-grain toast.  then i went for a long walk in a cemetery with henry and my daddio.  then i joined my sibs for a delicious lunch at myra's dionysus (and perhaps an afternoon cocktail on the veranda).  this evening i got to avoid dishes and cooking by packing up the fam and heading for mi tierra.  i did get some fabulous gifts this week...a new tele-photo zoom lens for my camera, hand-made cards from the kids, a yellow feather from a sweet little girl, and eclairs from her baking wiz mama.  I also got an awesome cupcake carrier and Sam made me a bionicle today.  the best gift though was ella being chosen to take part in a leadership conference this summer!  so proud of my girl!

prince henry is two!

prince henry turned two today.  he didn't quite grasp why were celebrating, but he sure enjoyed all the attention & fun!  we celebrated with a family dinner at indigo (it is my opinion that if they cannot speak for themselves then it's up to me to choose the best place to eat!).  then we came home for oreos & monkey fun.  it's hard to beleive he's already two.  it seems like just yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital....

happy birthday to my sweet ella rose

My little girl turns eight today.  I wanted to write a sweet post like I did for Max's birthday.  But I'm just not great with words, despite my job as a card-maker.  And I couldn't pick the right pictures, there were too many, so I decided to do a slideshow.  This is my first slideshow, so please excuse any technical  issues.  We love our sweet girl, and feel blessed to have her in our life!  And one thing that is apparent after watching this video is that I've sure had fun dressing my little girl over the years!  Boys just aren't as fun to dress, buy them a superhero t-shirt and they are good to go ;)
Enjoy the video!  And a very happy birthday to my sweet girl, Ella Bella, Princess of Kentucky.

my favorite time of the year :: may!

may is my favorite month of the year...the weather is finally starting to warm up (maybe a bit too much today...87degrees!), the flowers are starting to blossom, my birthday is this month (34 years old!  there's me as a newborn on the right>), mother's day is this month, and summer vacation is just around the corner.  it's such a fun and happy time!

last week i celebrated my 34th birthday.  i was quite spoiled all around, i had a nice dinner with my husband and children at home, a dinner at my parents' house (fried chicken, mashed potatoes & grandma's biscuits!), a date night with my husband, and a girls night out with my mother-in-law, her sister and my sister-in-law.  i'm quite the princess when it comes to my birthday...i like to celebrate it all week long, like a mardi gras of sorts.  i don't demand big presents or anything, but i like to use my birthday as an opportunity to spend quality time with my loved ones.  time with loved ones is much more precious than any gift.  that's not to say i don't enjoy or appreciate the gifts...and i was the recipient of so many lovely gifts last week as well (see some of them below).  it's just that the time with our families was the best.  and after my week long celebration of my 34th birthday, mother's day hit.  we played it kind of low-key that day, puttering around the house, the kids played outside, michael worked in the garage, max had a soccer game, and then that night we had a family outing (minus prince henry) to Cirque du Soleil's OVO.  It was amazing!  I was lucky enough to recieve free tickets in return for promotion of the show, and I am so thankful that I was able to take the kids, they absolutely loved it.
So here's a little photo collection from my special week...it was all about me...and i loved every minute of it.  my husband and my loved ones spoiled me.  it was hard to come back to reality on monday.
a beautiful necklace from someone very very special to me
the awesome wrapping paper used to wrap the above necklace
more jewelry!  a precious bracelet made by my ella rose for my birthday.

date night concluded at graeter's, where i found:

for mother's day michael bought me this lovely hanging basket...and took the kids outside for the morning to give me some rare peace and quiet.

ella made several sweet cards for me, although this one had me worried...she's a bit young for heartbreak, sigh.

and ella also made me this very cool vase...it's a quatropus (instead of an octopus)

sam made me this hot plate...in case you are having trouble intepreting, it's me.  a big blue me.  with pink hair, blue ears, green legs, and two different colored eyes.  no mouth.  no nose.  but i love it.  just precious.

max also made me a vase of flowers, somehow i don't have a picture of that one.  i love that they all used their creativity to come up with gifts.  some were made at school, and some were made in the basement with strict orders for mama to stay upstairs.  i will treasure these gifts forever.  and the memories of all of the family fun i had last week.
how do you celebrate birthdays in your family?
