henry & will
henry and will are cousins and are only a few months apart in age, and they love hanging out together. they started hanging out together when they were very small.
we had the pleasure of having sweet prince william hang out with us this week. and the boys got into so much trouble had so much fun together!

the end of an era
In the past few weeks we've had some big changes in our house. max went off to first grade…his first time at school all day long! ella has lost several teeth (taking her grand total to five lost). sam can all of a sudden count past 10. and henry has decided he's finished with nursing. that's the one that brings tears to my eyes.
i nursed all four of my children. ella and max did not nurse very long (in comparison with sam and henry), they both stopped around 6 months old. nursing wasn't as easy for me then, because i was working full time, which complicated things. sam nursed for about 11 months, but we had some issues that made it necessary to stop nursing him at that point. henry on the other hand, nursed for over 18 months. he's the only one of my kids that did not take to the bottle very well at all. i was in no rush to wean him, there was no reason to. i knew he would let me know when he was ready to stop. for the past 5 or 6 months he has only nursed in the evening and in the morning.
i loved nursing him, especially in the months after he learned to walk/run/climb, because it was the only time he would stop to cuddle with me. the beginning of the end was a few weeks ago, while we were on vacation. i would take him upstairs to nurse him and put him to bed, when all of a sudden he figured out exactly what that meant. if he nursed then he would miss the party going on downstairs and have to sleep. so, not only would he not nurse, but he would scream like crazy because he knew everyone else was having fun and he wasn't. i figured when we got back home we would get back into our routine. but no, he was finished. and just like that, it was over.
the end of nursing with each of my children was an emotional time, but it hit me the hardest with henry. he's our last baby, and each day he becomes more and more of a toddler. when he was cuddling and nursing in my arms he was my babe. don't get me wrong, he will always be my baby, but this is indeed the end of an era. it's not just about nursing babies, it's the about the harsh reality that my time with babies has come to an end, and that my children are growing up much faster than i would like them to.
so i will allow myself a little time to weep over the fact that my babes are growing up too fast, and then i will go back to enjoying every moment of watching them grow.

Everyone is always asking me this..."Who does Henry look like?". And I never know quite what to say. I think he looks alot like Ella did as a baby, but as you can see...he's got a little bit of everyone mixed in there!

fabulous friday
it's been a pretty fabulous friday round these parts...mama got to spend quite of bit of time in the kitchen preparing all kinds of tasty treats for a party...the kids and i had lunch with grandma sharon...my new (to us) catbird baby pikkolo carrier arrived in the mail
...ella went to a bridal shower and wore a dress fit for a princess
...and a much-missed daddy came home from his business trip

bathtime for baby
well, another itsy bitsy milestone today...henry graduated from the infant bath tub to the big baby boy bath seat. sigh. i'm feeling a bit melancholy. on one hand, i am excited about watching him come into his own, and i love watching his personality develop day by day. but on the other hand, it doesn't seem right, didn't i just give birth to him?!? wasn't he just snuggled against my chest sleeping the day away? and now he is rolling all over the house, grabbing for any toy he can, and you can see the longing in his eyes when he watches his siblings play....thinking to himself, 'someday, that will be me!'.

my little things, then & now
in the beginning there was ella bean...and now there are four...oh my!
in an attempt to add a picture of henry to a collage frame we have in our bathroom (with the above photos in it) i went a little crazy with the camera tonight. here are some more of my favorites. a special thank you to our friend from upstairs, bob, who came outside to make the children smile just as mama was about to give up hope. getting all of them looking at the camera and smiling is quite a feat. thankfully, we have a studio appointment later this summer!

neglect & priorities
i'm not quite sure how many people may be reading our little online family journal, or what it means to those who read it. for me, it is a place to share little tidbits and snapshots from our daily life. a place to share a favorite recipe, or cool craft ideas. a place to direct family & friends for updates on the children (have you seen how big my prince henry is getting?!?!).
i've never been one to keep a diary or a journal, not since childhood that is. i scrapbook obsessively, and document stories through photographs, but even in my scrapbooks the journaling is minimal. so this is my little attempt at a journal, but with the intent to share glimpses of our world with you.
the little things blog has been terribly neglected for a while, put on the back burner so to speak. many things have been put on the back burner around here (still waiting for my house elf to come help out with the chores). but that is ok...cleaning is not a priority, nor is blogging, or returning emails. right now my priority is kissing baby toes.
spring has invigorated me though, i feel like things are changing...the windows are open, the children are (knock on wood) healthy, and we have finally settled into some semblance of a routine. so i hope to be sharing new adventures, recipes, craft ideas, photos, and stories about the wild ones in the months to come.
