I usually like to cut my basil right off the plant when I am ready to cook with it, but sometimes I receive cut basil from friends or from my CSA that I need to keep fresh. How do I do that? I keep it in a vase on my windowsill! That way it's right there ready to use when I'm cooking! Sometimes I've been able to keep basil alive for a few weeks in a vase! I just make sure it has plenty of water each day. It's funny how often I'll decide we need a dinner that revolves around fresh basil since it's right there under my nose all day!
