Day of the Dead :: Sugar Skull Skirt

Today is what is known as Dia De Muertos, or "Day of the Dead" in Mexico.  This is the time that families come together to pray for friends and family members who have died.  It is, in my opinion, a beautiful way to celebrate and remember those who are no longer with us.  Sugar skulls play a large role in these celebrations, as they are given up as offerings to those who have died, and also given as gifts amongst the living.  I think that sugar skulls are gorgeous works of art.  To learn more about the Day of the Dead and Sugar Skulls check out Wikipedia, or peruse these sites for fun sites:

I spent some time telling the kids about the traditions of Dia De Muertos this week, and I also made Ella a very cool skirt with some Sugar Skull fabric by Alexander Henry that she picked out over a year ago.  I used the Lazy Days Skirt pattern, which is too easy to make.  To find the fabric, you can simply search "Sugar Skull Fabric" on Etsy!
